Departure Ushuaia, Argentina

This Antarctica – Beyond the Polar Circle – Wilkins Ice Shelf – Aurora Australis voyage is a true expedition, visiting a number of historically significant Antarctic areas, such as Bellingshausen Sea, Marguerite Bay, and Alexander Island. Explore many of the places discovered by Adrien de Gerlache on his Belgian Antarctic Expedition (1897 – 1899).

This voyage leaves Ushuaia and heads straight beyond Antarctic Circle, where we aim to spend the rest of the trip. The variety of landings and wilderness in this region are rivaled by few other places on Earth. You will see Antarctic ice shelves, land on islands where few people have set foot, and enjoy this awe-inspiring area far from the beaten track of regular Antarctic cruises.

Oceanwide Expeditions in a fantastic polar expert company that runs ship-based expeditions and are known for being the inventors of Basecamp Antarctica itineraries. Their goal is to take you off the ship and into the action as often as possible, allowing for maximum shore time with activities designed to accommodate a range of experience and fitness levels.

Oceanwide strives for close-contact, twice-daily outings on land and at sea (and sometimes below it). Their expert crew and nimble, ice-strengthened ships allow for safe passage, speedy disembarkations, and supremely flexible itineraries. Their fleet includes the smaller and refurbished M/V Ortelius and M/V Plancius as well as the new M/V Hondius.
